A new abridged version of the Dewey Decimal Classification will be available across Europe, the Middle East and Africa from March 1st. Abridged Edition 15 presents a logical abridgement of the recently released DD23 and includes many parallel updates to content and structure. These changes reflect the many changes to the body of human knowledge that have occurred since Abridged Edition 14 was published in back in 2004.

The abridged edition of the Dewey Decimal Classification is ideal for libraries with collections of 20,000 titles or fewer. The system provides the right level of detail needed to classify the materials in those collections, and is compatible with the unabridged edition should your collection expand and require deeper classification detail.

Joan Mitchell, DDC Editor in Chief, recently conducted an information session covering the many new topics and significant updates to selected fields available in Abridged 15. You can access a recording of this Webinar via the details below.

In this session, you will learn that Abridged 15 includes:

• Many new topics and significant updates to selected fields

• A complete overhaul to the representation of groups of people

• Elimination of dual headings and unbalanced spans

• Cessation of partial abridgment of parallel notation
